THREE FOX VINEYARDS’ ALOUETTE SCORE BIG IN THE WINE ENTHUSIAST!

We’re so excited! Our luscious 2007 Alouette Cab Franc was judged at 87 points by the Wine Enthusiast in it’s Buying Guide for the February 2010 edition (see page 90 of the magazine or go online).  The judging scale is a 100 point scale on which scores of 80 or higher represent excellent, outstanding wines. Among Virginia wines the highest score ever given was an 89 for Linden Vineyards for its Vidal Blanc (Jan. 2003 and Sept. 2005).  We’re sold out of the 2007 Cabernet Franc but our 2008 vintage is as good and possibly better!

THREE FOX WINES ARE AT THE INN AT LITTLE WASHINGTON!

We are pleased to announce that Patrick O’Connell’s world famous Inn at Little Washington, one of the very top inns and restaurants in the U.S. and the world, selected this year four Three Fox wines to add to their prestigious wine list. Our Calabrese Pinot Grigio, La Boheme Viognier, Volpe Sangiovese, and Piemontese Nebbiolo were selected.  Last year two of our wines were selected. We are, of course, very honored and appreciate the Inn at Little Washington’s recognition of the hand-crafted, true old-world style of our wines.

THREE FOX WINES NOW AVAILABLE ON-LINE AGAIN!

We are happy to announce that we and other Virginia wineries can once again use VinoShipper to ship wines in or out of state! Just click the “Wine Online” button to the left!

WHITES

In the Order we Taste them Out in the Tasting Room -

2008 Leggero Chardonnay - Available Now -Orange County, Virginia grown and then steel fermented and aged off-site so no oak gets in the way of the classic nose and tastes of Chardonnay. Pineapple and vanilla notes on the nose with added citrus tones on the palate and good, forward fruit. A crisp, refreshing sipper! Great with mild cheeses or sea food. “Leggero” (leh-jer-oh) means light, as in “not heavy”.

2008 Calabrese Pinot GrigioSOLD OUT! The 2009 will be released in February 2010  - Pinot Grigio is the same grape as the French call “pinot gris”. In Italy it is much produc.ed in the north, in the Alto Adige, Trentino, and Friuli regions. Our estate grown Pinot Grigio done in the true Italian style. At crush we allowed just a bit of skin contact which gives loads of lush flavors. Light and refreshing with hints of apricot, citrus, raspberry, and melon. A great summer sipper but enjoyable year round. “Calabrese” (cah-lah-breh-see) means “someone from Calabria” which we thought would be a fun name and a tribute to all of our Calabrian friends. Enjoy Calabrese by itself, with a nice white pizza, a chicken or seafood Caesar, or roast poultry or pork.

Gatto Bianco (non-vintage)Available Now- A white with a great sassy attitude, reminiscent of the whites from the Italian Piemonte.  Blended from Chardonnay (70%) and Viognier (30%). Pineapple & citrus nose and palate with a hint of melon and pear on the palate. Great with seafood!  Look for the sassy white cat on the label!

2008 La Boheme Viognier   - Available Now  - This is the principal white wine grape of the Rhone Valley (also home to Syrah for red wines). Estate grown and steel fermented and aged, the 2008 La Boheme is loaded lush forward notes of pear and tropical fruit and has a soft lingering finish. This is a great wine to enjoy with pates, smoked trout, goat cheese, poultry, or by itself. We’ve named this after the title character in Puccini’s opera “La Boheme”.

2008 Appassionata Vidal BlancSOLD OUT! The 2009 will be released in February 2010 - Vidal is a variety native to France. It’s a “hybrid” which means it is a cross between a classic European “vinfera” wine grape (Ugni blanc in this case) and a non-vinifera species (Seibel in this case). The grapes for the 2008 Appassionata were grown in Rappahanock County, at Narmada Vineyards west of Warrenton then brought to Three Fox for crushing and fermenting.  Appassionata is a true to type Vidal with good acidity with mixed citrus fruit tones. We do this in an “off-dry” style and our 2008 Appassionata has 3.0% sugar for a pleasing hint of sweetness which plays of the acidity. Overall, it is very reminiscent of an Alsatian-style Riesling. It’s great for sipping and goes very well with sharp cheeses, spicy foods, sea food, and especially wonderfully with Thai food!

ROSÉ

Cano Pazzo Rosé (non-vintage)Available Now -  Our Rosé, is made traditionally by removing a portion of the Sangiovese after two days of fermenting (the “bleed” wine) and allowing the balance of the fermenting of the bleed wine to go on without skin contact. This gives us a beautiful dry Rosé with the traditional light red – salmon color you find in the Provencé or in Northern Italy. There are subtle hints of citrus, spice, and berry. Great and refreshing on a warm summer day! Will go very well with salmon, mild cheeses, or a tasty summer salad drizzled with olive oil and fresh parmigiano.

REDS

In the Order we Taste them Out in the Tasting Room –

2008 Il Signor Sangiovese Reserve  Available Now - Our estate grown, 100%, Sangiovese is aged in Hungarian oak puncheons. Signor has yeast, truffle & caramel nose, a round supple mouth feel with cherry, red fruits, coffee and toast notes on the palate, and a smooth lingering finish with a hint of caramel. In short, Signor Sangiovese is a trip to Tuscany in a bottle. "Signor" (see-nee-or, "the lord") is meant for enjoyment on its own as well as for complimenting a great meal. Try it with lamb chops, poultry, a good Bolognese, or a steak Florentine.

2007 Il Volpe Sangiovese SOLD OUT! The 2008 will be released Spring of 2010. – This is an exceptional wine from an exceptional vintage and made in a true “Super Tuscan” style. It drinks like a Brunello but at a much lower price.  As with all of our Volpe vintages we use our estate grown Sangiovese and estate Cabernet Franc, individually aged in American and Hungarian oak.  The 2007 Volpe is 75% Sangiovese, 20% Cab Franc, and 5% Chambourcin. The 2007 Volpe still has the typical Sangiovese nose (yeasty, leathery) and palate (lots of cherry, toast, coffee and spice notes) but has also rich layers of black cherry,  chocolate, caramel and spice. This is a wine to savor on its own. It’s also big and bold to go with meats and cheeses, a great steak wine but also lovely with pastas.

GOLD  Medal Winner, Eastern Seaboard 2008 Wine  Competition / SILVER Medal, Hilton Head Island International 2009  Wine Competition

Maestro (non-vintage) – Available Now -  A new red which is an elegant, smooth blend of Sangiovese (48%), Cabernet Franc (34%) and Chambourcin (18%).  Chocolate, truffles and cherry on the nose and palate with added tones of red fruits, coffee and spice on the palate. “Maestro” means “the master” and this is a masterful wine to enjoy by itself or with pastas or meat dishes.

2008 Alouette Cabernet Franc Available Now - Our 100% estate Cabernet Franc. The 2008 Alouette, like the 2007, is a rich opulent mouth filling wine with loads of chocolate, blackcherry, berry, toast, coffee mild spice and a developing hint of caramel on the aftertaste. Can be enjoyed now or be laid down for 10 – 15 years with proper cellaring. Fantastic steak wine, cigar wine, a wine to enjoy chocolate goodies, or just all by it’s beautiful self. Alouette 2005, 2006 & 2007 are multiple award winners and the 2008 should match them!  This is a wine which can be enjoyed now but will continue to mature in the bottle and can be laid down for 10 – 15 years with proper cellaring. This is a fantastic steak wine, a cigar wine, a wine to enjoy chocolate goodies, or just all by it’s beautiful self.

2008 Rosso Dolce Chambourcin  Available Now  - Rosso Dolce (sweet red) is our “port alternative”. Chambourcin is a hybrid originally from the Loire Valley of France (still grown there) and now much grown in Virginia. Rosso Dolce, at 6% sugar, has strong red fruits notes with a subtle chocolate, port-like undercurrent and finish.  You can enjoy a port-like experience without the high alcohol level of a true port. Try it with your favorite chocolate dessert for a real treat! Packaged in "Bellisimo" 375 mL bottles just right for a bit of after-dinner fun.
